What the hell...
Im sorry for the phrase but I am so disgusted when I read the news that SM and GSIS were on the joint venture to put up another SM so-called development here in Baguio.
Before we move on, I am not against development but what we need is sustainable and well-thought development... not development in which every land is converted into vertical buildings for the rich.
Moving on, the Baguio Midland Courier's banner was "SM-GSIS joint venture in BCC area to remove 418 trees" < read http://baguiomidlandcourier.com.ph/>. The headline in itself was giving a very wrong message to the people of Baguio.
The proposed site is at the Baguio Convention Center which is under the care of the GSIS...
This tree park has its own story to tell from those who planted it to those who try to protect the few remaining green patches in the city.
SM's move to build a skyrocketing 14-storey atop a mountain is plain appalling. Just look at the skyline and SM looks down at you as if it wants your money more than your pleasure.
The people of Baguio do not need another SM in the midst of the great pine trees. Shall we permit the destruction of more forests for the pockets of greedy businessmen from Manila? Should we allow people to lose water coming from our watersheds and forests (such as the tree park)? Should we be more pleased with "pseudo-jobs" amid the ever growing problem on pollution and traffic? Will we still have clean air to breath once another SM development stands up high upon the people who need it most? Will this so-called development from SM bring real benefits to the city when in fact this will draw more people to Baguio and eat up our scarce resources?
The questions will go on until people would dare do action.
For me? It seems like SM owns Baguio, don't you think?
